Impact Chicago, Thousand Waves and Iraq Veterans Against the War-Chicago present a FREE PUBLIC screening & discussion of the Invisible War on Saturday, February 9th from 4pm-6pm. Refreshments provided. Childcare available with RSVP.

Also, Thousand Waves Marital Arts & Self Defense, NFP has just announced that they would like to honor Sabrina Waller, one of IVAW Board of Directors, with their Peacemaker Award after the screening of The Invisible War on Saturday, February 9. It will be a short presentation of a plaque honoring her peacemaking work.

artEach spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 4th District. The over-all winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other winners nation-wide. (more…)

AFGE Applauds Confirmation Of FAA Administrator

World Wide WebThe American Federation of Government Employees congratulates Michael Huerta on his recent confirmation to lead the Federal Aviation Administration. The 112th Congress confirmed Huerta on Jan. 1, just before the congressional session expired.
Huerta has served as FAA’s Acting Administrator since December 2011. During this time, he has successfully managed FAA’s workforce of 47,000 employees during a trying period of budget shortfalls and hiring freezes.

House GOP ponders another federal pay freeze

World Wide Web The federal government’s civilian employees have worked under a salary freeze for about two years, but their incomes will begin to rise after March 27 unless Congress acts to once again halt their salary increases.

Lawmakers are expected to take up the matter in coming months as they address the debt limit and the automatic spending cuts delayed under a “fiscal cliff” deal that President Barack Obama signed Wednesday.

End of the Federal Pay Freeze Announced

World Wide WebA new executive order has been issued providing for a new pay schedule beginning “on the first day of the first applicable pay period beginning after March 27, 2013.” The pay raise will generally be about 1/2 of 1%.

As most readers know, President Obama proposed a pay freeze on civilian employee pay that was applicable all federal civilian employees. This was way back in 2010.

World Wide WebThe president made the pay freeze extension on the federal workforce official this afternoon (12/21/2012) when he issued a presidential memorandum directing heads of agencies to not issue any pay increases until at least March 27, 2013.

President Obama had previously said he wanted to end the pay freeze in 2013 and give federal employees a 0.5% pay raise, but would not do so until Congress passes a budget.
